A Message from your School Administrators |
It has been another busy and exciting week at Mayfield Intermediate School!
This past week, we celebrated National School Social Worker Week, and we want to take a moment to recognize how fortunate our school community is to have Ms. Haneen Alakhras supporting our students, families, and staff each day. Ms. Alakhras works tirelessly to ensure that our students have the social, emotional, and community support they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom. We are grateful for the care, compassion, and dedication she brings to Mayfield.
This week also marked the launch of our After-School Tutoring Program. Tutoring sessions are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and focus on helping students prepare for their upcoming SOL exams. We are excited to have over 200 students invited to participate in this important academic support opportunity. Our teachers are doing an outstanding job providing targeted instruction to help students build confidence and strengthen their skills as we approach testing season. As we look ahead, we are also wrapping up the third quarter of the school year next week. It’s hard to believe how quickly the year has gone by! This marks the start of the home stretch of the school year. Before we know it, students will be taking their SOL assessments, and we will be preparing for the final weeks of school and the excitement of summer break.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff. Working together, we will finish the school year strong! Dr. Frischkorn, Principal

Dear Mayfield Family and Community Members, March, 2026 Mayfield Intermediate School will be holding a Career Day for our students on Friday, March 27th. Career Day is a fun-filled day where students will have the opportunity to learn about a variety of careers. They will meet members of our community and engage in activities designed to increase their awareness of the world of work.
We are currently in need of community members willing to share their careers with us. Our career day will resemble a college fair and all of our speakers will have their own booth used to showcase their career and talents. We ask that you arrive by 11:15 am in order to set up. The fair will begin at 11:30 am and conclude at 1:45 pm. Guest speakers will talk to students about what they do at work, what they like about their job, what type of training/education is needed, and how basic skills/subjects that the children are learning now can help them in this job. Please feel free to bring handouts, props and visual aids (stickers, trinkets, business cards, magnets, etc.). In return, you will receive many smiles and priceless questions. Lunch will also be provided.
We hope that you will consider participating in our Career Day activity. If you are available, please fill out the following link: https://tinyurl.com/Mayfield2026
The link can also be found on Mayfield’s homepage. Please RSVP no later than March 6th. Questions can be emailed to Jill LaScola at jlascola@mcpsva.org or call 571-377-6756. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. We hope that you are able to join us for this special event! |

Attention 6th Graders, A Vaccine Clinic is Coming to Mayfield |
To help families prepare for the upcoming school year, Mayfield Intermediate School will be hosting a student vaccine clinic in partnership with the Virginia Department of Health. This clinic is designed to help ensure that our rising 7th-grade students are up-to-date on all immunizations required for entry into 7th grade in Virginia.
According to the Virginia Department of Health, students entering 7th grade must have several required vaccinations, including the Tdap booster, Meningococcal (MenACWY), and the first dose of the HPV vaccine. This on-site clinic will provide families with a convenient opportunity to meet these requirements before the start of the school year.
Additional details about the clinic date, time, and required consent forms will be shared with families soon. We encourage parents to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure their child is fully prepared for a healthy and successful start to middle school. If you have questions about immunization requirements, please visit the Virginia Department of Health website or contact the school clinic for assistance. |
