A Message from your School Administrators |
Good Afternoon, Mayfield Community!
I hope this message finds you well and that you are enjoying the start of the spring season.
Report cards for the third quarter are coming home today. Please be sure to check your child’s book bag so you can review their progress together. This is a great opportunity to celebrate successes and set goals for the remainder of the school year.
We are also incredibly proud of our 6th-grade band and orchestra students, who performed this week at the All-City Band and Orchestra concerts held at Osbourn High School. Our students represented Mayfield with excellence, and their hard work truly paid off as they opened both concert nights with strong performances. I want to extend a special thank you to Mr. Souza, our Band Director, and Mr. Read, our Orchestra Director, for their dedication and commitment to our students. They have done an amazing job introducing students to new instruments and building a strong musical foundation that will support the future success of our Manassas City performing arts program.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and school community.

This week, we proudly celebrate National Assistant Principals Week, and I would like to take a moment to recognize and thank two outstanding leaders in our building—Mr. Moore and Mrs. Milhoan.
Mr. Moore and Mrs. Milhoan work tirelessly each day to support our students, staff, and families. Their commitment to ensuring that our students demonstrate their very best “Bobcat Behavior” can be seen in our classrooms, throughout our hallways, and within our greater community. They lead with care, consistency, and a deep dedication to helping every student grow both academically and socially.
We are incredibly fortunate to have two such dedicated and passionate assistant principals serving the Mayfield Intermediate School community. Their leadership makes a meaningful difference in the positive culture we strive to build each day.
Please join me in thanking Mr. Moore and Mrs. Milhoan for all that they do!

Mayfield's Continued Growth with Behavior Support Systems
|
As part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening our schoolwide Behavior Support Systems, Mayfield has recently implemented two consistent tools to support a calm, focused, and respectful learning environment: our voice level expectations and a unified refocus signal. These routines were introduced through daily announcements and reinforced in classrooms, helping students understand that being their “Bobcat Best” means using the right voice at the right time and quickly refocusing when an adult signals for attention. Throughout the first two weeks, students practiced these expectations during instruction and transitions, building habits that promote both individual responsibility and a strong learning community. We have already seen a positive impact, with many students demonstrating improved focus, smoother transitions, and increased awareness of how their actions support others. By continuing to reinforce these practices, we are helping all students contribute to a calm, respectful, and productive environment where everyone can succeed.

Successful Career Day at Mayfield! |
The week before Spring Break, Mayfield Intermediate School hosted a highly successful Career Day, providing our students with an exciting opportunity to explore a wide range of future pathways. Through their school counseling lessons, students have been learning about the 17 career clusters, and this event brought those lessons to life in a meaningful and engaging way.
We were fortunate to welcome presenters who live and work right here in our community. Our students had the chance to learn from professionals representing a variety of fields, including the Police Department, NOVEC, technology industries, tree and landscape services, social media influencers, small business owners, graphic and clothing designers, and hair stylists. Each presenter shared valuable insights, helping students make real-world connections to their learning.
I am especially proud of how our students demonstrated their “Bobcat Best” behavior throughout the afternoon. They were respectful, engaged, and eager to learn from each of our guests.
We would also like to give a special shout-out to the Osbourn High School students who joined us to share their experiences in Career and Technical Education programs. Their presentations provided a powerful glimpse into the opportunities that await our students in the years ahead.
Thank you to everyone who helped make Career Day such a meaningful experience for our students!

Attention 6th Graders, A Vaccine Clinic is Coming to Mayfield On Wednesday, April 15 |
To help families prepare for the upcoming school year, Mayfield Intermediate School will be hosting a student vaccine clinic in partnership with the Virginia Department of Health. This clinic is designed to help ensure that our rising 7th-grade students are up-to-date on all immunizations required for entry into 7th grade in Virginia.
According to the Virginia Department of Health, students entering 7th grade must have several required vaccinations, including the Tdap booster, Meningococcal (MenACWY), and the first dose of the HPV vaccine. This on-site clinic will provide families with a convenient opportunity to meet these requirements before the start of the school year.
Additional details about the clinic date, time, and required consent forms will be shared with families soon. We encourage parents to take advantage of this opportunity to ensure their child is fully prepared for a healthy and successful start to middle school.
If you have questions about immunization requirements, please visit the Virginia Department of Health website or contact the school clinic for assistance.

The Student Code of Conduct helps all students and parents understand their school-related rights, responsibilities, and expectations of the school. It is not intended to be a comprehensive document covering all possible situations but to provide a framework that makes clear that students are expected to act responsibly and with respect for other human beings at all times.
Parents can download a copy of the Student Code of Conduct from our school division website.
