A Message from your School Administrators
|
Hello, Mayfield Intermediate School Community!
Mayfield Intermediate School is fortunate to have 110 dedicated staff members who go above and beyond every day to create the exceptional learning environment that defines our school community. Their commitment, care, and professionalism ensure that every student is supported academically, socially, and emotionally.
At Mayfield, we believe that every staff member is a teacher. Whether working directly in classrooms or supporting students behind the scenes, each adult plays an essential role in our shared responsibility to ensure that all students learn and succeed. This collective mindset is what makes Mayfield a special place for our students and families.
Next week, May 4 through May 8, we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. This is a meaningful opportunity to recognize and thank the educators and staff members who consistently put students first and make a lasting impact every day.
We encourage families to take a moment to thank your child’s teacher or a staff member who has made a difference this year. A kind note, email, or message of appreciation can go a long way in recognizing their dedication and support.
Thank you to our outstanding Mayfield staff for your unwavering commitment to our students and our community.
Dr. Donald Frischkorn-Principal
Mrs. Sarah Milhoan, 6th Grade Assistant Principal
Mr. Brian Moore, 5th Grade Assistant Principal

Upcoming SOL Testing for 5th and 6th Grade Students
As we enter an important time of the school year, Mayfield Intermediate School is preparing for Standards of Learning (SOL) testing for our 5th and 6th-grade students. Students will be assessed in Reading, Mathematics, and Science, providing an opportunity to demonstrate their learning and growth throughout the year.
SOL testing allows students to show what they know and are able to do based on Virginia’s academic standards. Our teachers have worked closely with students throughout the year to ensure they are well prepared and confident as testing approaches.
How Students Can Prepare for Success
We encourage students to keep the following tips in mind as they prepare for their SOL tests:
Get plenty of rest each night, especially the night before testing.
Eat a healthy breakfast to help stay focused and energized.
Read each question carefully and take time to think before answering.
Do your best and stay positive, remembering that one test does not define you.
Use strategies learned in class, such as checking math work and revisiting passages in reading.
How Families Can Help
Families can support students by encouraging good routines, offering positive reinforcement, and reminding students to approach testing with confidence and a calm mindset.
We are proud of the hard work our 5th and 6th graders have put in this year and are confident they will rise to the challenge. Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we work together to help every student succeed.

Mayfield's Continued Growth with Behavior Support Systems |
As part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening our schoolwide Behavior Support Systems, Mayfield has recently implemented two consistent tools to support a calm, focused, and respectful learning environment: our voice level expectations and a unified refocus signal. These routines were introduced through daily announcements and reinforced in classrooms, helping students understand that being their “Bobcat Best” means using the right voice at the right time and quickly refocusing when an adult signals for attention. Throughout the first two weeks, students practiced these expectations during instruction and transitions, building habits that promote both individual responsibility and a strong learning community. We have already seen a positive impact, with many students demonstrating improved focus, smoother transitions, and increased awareness of how their actions support others. By continuing to reinforce these practices, we are helping all students contribute to a calm, respectful, and productive environment where everyone can succeed.

After School Activity Bus Schedules |

After School Buses depart Mayfield at 4:20 PM
As the school year progresses and we introduce additional after-school clubs/activities and tutoring, it is essential to remind families that the after-school activity buses follow slightly different routes than our regular morning and afternoon bus routes. Please review the three different activity bus routes. You can find the closest street intersection on the bus route to know where students will be dropped off if they are riding the after-school activity bus.

The Student Code of Conduct helps all students and parents understand their school-related rights, responsibilities, and expectations of the school. It is not intended to be a comprehensive document covering all possible situations but to provide a framework that makes clear that students are expected to act responsibly and with respect for other human beings at all times.
Parents can download a copy of the Student Code of Conduct from our school division website.
