Good Things Going on at Mayfield!

Dear Mayfield Community and Families,

We are so excited about our upcoming Back-to-School and Multicultural Night on Thursday, September 25, 2025. This event is an excellent opportunity for parents to visit our school and observe their child's classroom, witnessing the fantastic learning that is taking place. This year we are doing things a little different.

5:00 to 6:00 PM

Starting at 5:00 PM, the classrooms will be open for families to visit. While visiting the classrooms, students will have the opportunity to show their families some of the great learning that takes place within the school. Teachers will be in the classroom to support and answer any questions, but we must remind families that this is not a time for individualized conferences. We have a conference day coming up, or you can reach out to your child's teacher separately to set up a time to discuss any areas where you have specific questions about your child. At 6:00 PM, classroom visits will stop, and we will invite families and staff to the cafeteria to participate in our multicultural night celebration.

6:00 to 7:30 PM

Join us in the Mayfield cafeteria for our Multicultural Celebration. The cafeteria gates will open at 6:00 PM to start letting families into the cafeteria. We really want all our families to take the time from 5:00 to 6:00 PM to visit their child's classroom. Once the gates open, we will have a potluck-style food sample where families have brought in dishes to share and celebrate their family traditions. Additionally, we will have performances by students that include singing, dancing, and fashion.

Thanks!

After School Clubs and Activities

Mayfield Intermediate School will offer a wide range of after-school clubs and activities for our students throughout the year. Additional clubs will be added as students and staff come up with new and exciting ideas. During the morning announcements, students will be notified of when new clubs are starting and where to pick up the permission form for the clubs. Space is limited in all the clubs, so our students must pay attention to the morning announcements. Here is our current catalog of clubs:

Basketball

Both 6th and 5th graders can participate in an intramural schedule focused on learning and playing basketball.

Bobcat Drama

Step into the spotlight and let your creativity shine! Our Intermediate Drama Club is where imagination takes center stage. Whether you dream of being the star of the show, directing a scene, or designing the perfect set, there’s a place for you in our cast and crew. Each week, students will explore acting, improvisation, stage presence, and even scriptwriting in a fun and supportive environment. From hilarious improv games to powerful performances, you’ll build confidence, teamwork, and storytelling skills, all while making lasting friendships and unforgettable memories. Get ready to laugh, create, and perform as we work toward an exciting showcase at the end of the session. Don’t just watch the drama—Be The Drama!

Card Club

Attention Pokémon Trainers, Illumineers, and Mages: Mayfield's Card Club is a chance to learn and play trading card games after school with other people interested in the hobby. We'll be learning and playing Pokémon TCG, Disney Lorcana, and Magic: The Gathering. No experience is necessary, and cards will be provided (you can bring your own, too!). Space will be limited to the first 12 students who sign up.

Culture Club

The purpose of this club is to provide students with a space to experience different cultures and learn about the diversity that exists not only within our student body but also in the world around them. We will get to know other students and share our cultures while we try to cook different food and snacks from around the world. We'll also have dance parties, scavenger hunts, watch movies, and talk about cultures and new things.

Gaming Club

The purpose of this club is to provide students with an opportunity to meet and form new friendships with their peers through the enjoyment of playing games. Club members will be expected to exhibit good sportsmanship, kindness, and respect toward other club members and club materials. The club will provide age-appropriate board games and Nintendo Switch games. Games will be cooperative, and members will play together. There will be no single-player options, as the club's goal is to encourage social interactions.

Garden Club

This club offers hands-on, outdoor learning experiences that foster curiosity, responsibility, and teamwork by teaching children about the origins of food, promoting physical activity, encouraging healthy eating habits, and deepening their connection to nature and the environment.

Girls on the Run

The purpose of this club is to provide students with fitness and wellness opportunities through exercise. The club will be divided into sections, allowing students to participate in activities at their own pace and comfort. This is a physical activity club with the expectation that students will participate in the various physical activities being offered.

Harry Potter Club

The purpose of this club is to give a space for students to experience the magic of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It is open to all students, wizards, and Muggles alike who love Harry Potter. The club spends time discussing, reading, and watching Harry Potter books and movies. We discuss themes occurring in the books and films. The Harry Potter club members also do activities based on some of the classes at Hogwarts, including creating charms, learning spells, and making potions. We do crafts, play Quidditch and other games, do service projects, and have a ton of fun!

Jewelry Club

Students will have the opportunity to create different types of jewelry such as bracelets, necklaces, and earrings with a variety of different beads.

National History Day Club

Students will work on research projects to participate in the regional National History Day competition that will be held in Fairfax in March 2026.

Safety Patrols

This club promotes safety at school, on school buses, and at school bus stops.

Spanish Club

To introduce young students to the Spanish language and the diverse cultures of Spanish-speaking countries interactively and engagingly, fostering appreciation for other cultures, building confidence, and providing opportunities to practice the Spanish language.

Spirit Club

The purpose of this club is to give students a space to build school spirit while supporting our PBIS fundraising activities. We will work together to create fun and engaging events that bring our school community closer and celebrate our Bobcat pride. Students will get to know each other while planning and participating in activities such as assemblies, spirit weeks, poster-making, and themed dress-up days. We will also help organize and run PBIS fundraising events, such as bake sales, candy grams, and school store promotions. Our goal is to create an exciting and positive environment where every student feels connected, motivated, and proud to be part of our school.

Volleyball Club

The purpose of this club is to teach students basic volleyball skills and to practice their skills on a game on the final meeting date. You don't need any experience at all. Students will need to bring comfortable clothes to play in, shoes, water, and a positive attitude. Club members are expected to act respectfully towards others, follow school rules, follow all directions from the leaders, and treat the equipment and materials with care.

After School Activity Bus Schedules

After School Buses depart Mayfield at 4:20 PM

As the school year continues and we start more after-school clubs/activities, and tutoring, it is essential to remind families that the after-school activity buses follow slightly different routes than our regular morning and afternoon bus routes. Please review the three different activity bus routes. You can find the closest street intersection on the bus route to know where students will be dropped off if they are riding the after-school activity bus.
