A Message from your School Administrators

Good Evening, Mayfield Community,

We are incredibly fortunate to have a truly exceptional group of educators here at Mayfield Intermediate. Our teachers go above and beyond every day to challenge, support, and inspire our students.

We are excited to share an opportunity for you to formally recognize one of these outstanding individuals by nominating them for the prestigious Washington Post Teacher and Principal of the Year award!

This is a fantastic way to shine a spotlight on the dedication and impact our staff makes in the lives of children. We strongly encourage you to nominate a teacher who has made a difference in your student's life this year.

Eligibility Requirements

The Washington Post Teacher of the Year program is open to all full-time teachers who meet the following criteria. Please confirm your nominee meets these standards before submitting your application:

Full-time Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12

Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience (at least one of which must be within the current school system)

Must be serving as a teacher for the current 2025-2026 school year

Must work at an accredited school

When crafting your nomination, please consider how your chosen teacher excels in the following five areas. These qualities are what the selection committee will use to evaluate candidates:

♦ Inspired Learning: Instill in students a desire to learn and achieve.

♦ Encourage Individual Growth: Understand the individual needs of students, encourage their talents, and foster their self-esteem.

♦ Demonstrate Subject Matter Expertise: Showcase a thorough knowledge of the subject matter and the ability to share it effectively with students.

♦ Foster Collaboration: Proactively facilitate cooperative relationships with their colleagues, students, and the community.

♦ Lead by Example: Demonstrate outstanding leadership.

First Quarter Report Cards Available Online

We have noticed that many families have not yet logged in to the Parent Portal. We are here to support you if you need help accessing your child's report card. Also, the Parent Portal allows you to monitor students throughout the school year, not just for report cards.

You can view your child's progress and performance by logging into the Parent Portal. We encourage all families to review these reports. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's grades or progress, please reach out directly to their teacher to schedule a conference. Teachers will be available for parent-teacher conferences on Monday, November 3rd, between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss your student's report card and academic goals for the next quarter.

After School Clubs and Activities

We offer a variety of clubs and activities at Mayfield Intermediate School. After-school clubs and activities are sponsored by teachers and open to all students, who can sign up through a paper application process. Clubs fill up very quickly because most clubs are limited to 10-15 students per staff member. Students learn about our club offerings on the morning announcements. During announcements, we share that a specific club is now accepting applications and let students know.

Our goal is to make the announcements very clear for a week while applications are being accepted. However, I will let families know that some clubs fill up within a day of the announcements.

We provide students with clear directions for picking up a permission form from the teacher sponsoring the event or the grade-level office.

After School Buses depart Mayfield at 4:20 PM

As the school year progresses and we introduce additional after-school clubs/activities and tutoring, it is essential to remind families that the after-school activity buses follow slightly different routes than our regular morning and afternoon bus routes. Please review the three different activity bus routes. You can find the closest street intersection on the bus route to know where students will be dropped off if they are riding the after-school activity bus.
