Edition #8

A Message from your School Administrators

Good Evening, Mayfield Community,

As we approach the end of the calendar year, I am filled with immense pride as I reflect on the incredible accomplishments of our students and staff. The energy at Mayfield Intermediate School has been nothing short of inspiring, and it is a joy to share some of our most recent successes with you.

🌟 Celebrating Excellence: Students of the Month

One of the highlights of my month is recognizing students who go above and beyond to model our core values. We recently celebrated 64 outstanding students for our October and November Student of the Month ceremony. These individuals were selected for their dedication to the Student Code of Conduct and for being leaders in our hallways and classrooms. Congratulations to our honorees—your hard work does not go unnoticed!

🏆 1st Place in the Manassas Christmas Parade!

If you attended the Greater Manassas Christmas Parade, you likely saw our amazing Mayfield float! I am thrilled to announce that Mayfield Intermediate took home the 1st Place Award for our float design. This was a true team effort, designed and built through the collaboration of our creative students and dedicated staff. Seeing our school spirit on display in the heart of our community was a moment I won’t soon forget.

🎶 A Harmonious Winter Concert

Our fine arts department continues to shine! Last week, our Chorus delivered a spectacular Winter Concert. The talent and preparation displayed by our singers were truly impressive, and it was the perfect way to bring our community together through music. Thank you to Ms. Hellebuyck, our chorus director, and students for sharing your gifts with us.

School Accreditation and Accountability Update

This past week, the Virginia Department of Education released its updated Accreditation and Accountability Framework for all schools in Virginia. Each school receives an accreditation rating and an accountability rating. Mayfield Intermediate was fully accredited.

For the accountability portion, schools are placed into four performance categories based on the points earned, as shown in the graphic below.

1. Distinguished

2. On Track

3. Off Track

4. Needs Intensive Support

Mayfield Intermediate earned 80.5 out of 100 possible points in the accountability rating. Schools that receive a score between 80 and 89.9 points are considered to be "On Track." However, our Special Education reporting group was federally identified as a targeted support and improvement group. This means our school received an "Off-Track" rating despite meeting the threshold for "On Track."

As the principal and instructional leader of the school, I am proud of the work that our students and staff put in to achieving a score of 80.5. I can also assure our community that we are committed to improving our student achievement across all reporting categories so that next year our school achieves an "On Track" or higher rating.

You can also view our school's Continuous Improvement Plan, which highlights the areas we aim to support and improve to increase student achievement. You can download a copy of our Continuous Improvement plan from our school website.  The continuous improvement plan is located in the "News" section of our website.

After School Buses depart Mayfield at 4:20 PM

As the school year progresses and we introduce additional after-school clubs/activities and tutoring, it is essential to remind families that the after-school activity buses follow slightly different routes than our regular morning and afternoon bus routes. Please review the three different activity bus routes. You can find the closest street intersection on the bus route to know where students will be dropped off if they are riding the after-school activity bus.
