The Mayfield Messenger

Week 6 Edition, September 20th

A Message from Dr. Frischkorn

Next week, we have an exciting Back-to-School Night event planned for our students and their families. Along with Back-to-School Night, we will host a Hispanic Heritage Night with a potluck dinner, a fashion show, and several performances highlighting our Hispanic culture at Mayfield Intermediate School. Please come with your child to see all the great work they have accomplished during the first six weeks of school. Your child can give you a self-guided tour of their classroom, and then your family can join us in the cafeteria for our Hispanic Heritage Night activities.

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW!

Our second student social of the school year is on Friday, October 18th. The Fall Festival is an excellent event for our students and again helps support building community among classmates. The ticket sales and concession stand proceeds are then put into our Positive Behavior Incentive account and used to help provide students with a fun end-of-the-year celebration and fund our Student of the Month and honor roll ceremonies throughout the school year.

We want to remind students and parents that attending the Fall Festival is a privilege students must earn through their excellent behavior in and outside the classroom. Students who receive discipline referrals from September 18 until the dance will not be permitted to attend.

Benchmark Literacy

This school year, all students in grades K-6 have been using our newest high-quality instructional materials (HQIM) from Benchmark Advanced. Our teachers have been busy in their collaborative learning teams, working with each other to learn the new instructional materials and providing top-tier instruction to our students with the materials provided in Benchmark Advanced.

After everyone completed the first step of setting up structures and routines, the classes all dove into Unit 1. Unit 1 for 5th graders focused on Cultivating Natural Resources, while Unit 1 for 6th graders focused on Relationships in Nature.

Ask your child about their new reading series!

September is Attendance Awareness Month

After six weeks of school, we are seeing some student attendance trends. We have been in school for 28 instructional days. Students who have missed three or more school days would be considered chronically absent. We understand that students will get sick throughout the school year and must miss some school. However, the trend that we are noticing is some students have already missed six or more days of school at various times throughout the weeks. We must work together to ensure our students are getting the most out of the educational opportunities provided at Mayfield Intermediate School.

Student Code of Conduct

The Student Code of Conduct helps all students and parents understand their school-related rights, responsibilities, and expectations of the school. It is not intended to be a comprehensive document covering all possible situations but to provide a framework that makes clear that students are expected to act responsibly and with respect for other human beings at all times.

Parents can download a copy of the Student Code of Conduct from our school division website.
