At Metz, we SHOW RESPECT, we ARE DETERMINED, we SEEK EXCELLENCE, and we SHOW WHAT WE KNOW!
The mission of Grace E. Metz Middle School is to empower life-long learners by inspiring students to grow in confidence, self-awareness, and to become contributing members of our community.
Dear Metz Families,
We have some important events and reminders to share as we approach the end of Quarter 1 on October 17th.
Please join us for our Math Night for Parents. This will be a virtual meeting on Monday and Wednesday evening beginning at 6:30. See the flyer below in the newsletter for the QR code to join the meeting.
We'll conduct our bus evacuation drill on Wednesday, October 9th, at 7:20 a.m. Rest assured, our staff and bus drivers will support our students throughout the process. We're also proud to announce that our Metz Chorus will join OHS to sing the National Anthem on Thursday, October 10th at 6:25 p.m. at OHS. It's a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their talents!
We kindly ask that all walkers and car riders arrive at school before 7:40 a.m. to ensure a smooth start to the day. Your efforts in maintaining punctuality are greatly appreciated.
We're committed to your child's success and can't do it alone. Your involvement makes a difference. Whether it's helping with homework, attending school events, or just talking to your kids about their day, your support is invaluable.
Thank you for your continued support in making Metz a positive and inclusive place for your child’s learning! Your feedback and input are always welcome. Reach me at jfinnegan@mcpsva.org or 571-377-6808.
"Every student, Every day, Whatever it takes!"

As required by Virginia Code § 22.1-279.3 and the Manassas City Public Schools “Code of Behavior,” each parent of a student enrolled in a public school has a duty to assist the school in enforcing compulsory school attendance, and if necessary, to meet with the principal or his/her designee to ensure the student’s compliance with the compulsory school attendance law and to discuss improvement of the student’s school attendance.
It is the responsibility of the student to obtain and complete all assignments missed during the period of suspension. These assignments must be completed within a time frame established by the school.
A student is chronically absent when their total number of excused and unexcused absences is ten percent (10%) or more of the school year. Students should not miss school more than four (4) days per quarter.
We are here to support you and child. Let us know how we can partner with you!
