The mission of Grace E. Metz Middle School is to empower life-long learners by inspiring students to grow in confidence, self-awareness, and to become contributing members of our community.
Dear Metz Families,
As we head into Thanksgiving, I want to touch base about our upcoming break and share a quick note of thanks. Our Thanksgiving break runs from November 27-29. We'll see everyone at school on Monday/Tuesday, November 25-26, and then back at school on Monday, December 2nd. I hope this time of rest is a time of refreshing for you and your family.
I can't say enough how much your support means to our school. When I walk through the halls, meet with your child, or notice the young leader in them, I see the impact of your involvement. From attending parent/teacher conferences, checking your child's grades, and attending school and community events – you're making a real difference. Your partnership is what makes our school community strong. So, this Thanksgiving, know you're at the top of my gratitude list.
Enjoy the break with your families. We'll be ready to finish the year strong when we return.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Juliet Finnegan

As required by Virginia Code § 22.1-279.3 and the Manassas City Public Schools “Code of Behavior,” each parent of a student enrolled in a public school has a duty to assist the school in enforcing compulsory school attendance, and if necessary, to meet with the principal or his/her designee to ensure the student’s compliance with the compulsory school attendance law and to discuss improvement of the student’s school attendance.
It is the responsibility of the student to obtain and complete all assignments missed during the period of suspension. These assignments must be completed within a time frame established by the school.
A student is chronically absent when their total number of excused and unexcused absences is ten percent (10%) or more of the school year. Students should not miss school more than four (4) days per quarter.
We are here to support you and child. Let us know how we can partner with you!
