At Metz, we SHOW RESPECT, we ARE DETERMINED, we SEEK EXCELLENCE, and we SHOW WHAT WE KNOW!
The mission of Grace E. Metz Middle School is to empower life-long learners by inspiring students to grow in confidence, self-awareness, and to become contributing members of our community.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to 2025! We hope this letter finds you well as we begin an exciting new year at our school. We're thrilled to welcome our students back from winter break and snow days and trust that each of you had a safe and wonderful time with family and friends. We so miss our Mustangs and cannot wait to see them again!
As we settle into the new year, we have a few important dates and events to share:
January 2025: We'll review the student code of conduct to support a positive reset
January 13-17, 2025: We'll be conducting our annual climate survey.
Throughout January, our halls will be filled with the sounds of music as we host various concerts. We warmly invite you to join us for these performances!
We'd like to express our heartfelt thanks for your continued support and remind you of the crucial role your engagement plays in your child's education. Your involvement makes a significant difference in our school community. Here's to a fantastic start to 2025!
In partnership,
Juliet Finnegan- Principal

*The next Bi-Weekly Bulletin will be included in the following newsletter.
We invite you to review our Bi-Weekly Bulletins to gain insights into the content topics that will be taught and assessed in the upcoming two weeks. Additionally, we take this opportunity to recognize our "Mustangs of the Week," who exemplify the attributes of Mustang Learners and Leaders. These individuals were selected based on nominations from their teachers.
The 2025 Virginia School Survey of Climate and Working Conditions will be administered to Metz Middle School students the week of January 13 - 17, 2025, to all classroom instructors, licensed staff, and students at Metz Middle School.

As required by Virginia Code § 22.1-279.3 and the Manassas City Public Schools “Code of Behavior,” each parent of a student enrolled in a public school has a duty to assist the school in enforcing compulsory school attendance, and if necessary, to meet with the principal or his/her designee to ensure the student’s compliance with the compulsory school attendance law and to discuss improvement of the student’s school attendance.
It is the responsibility of the student to obtain and complete all assignments missed during the period of suspension. These assignments must be completed within a time frame established by the school.
A student is chronically absent when their total number of excused and unexcused absences is ten percent (10%) or more of the school year. Students should not miss school more than four (4) days per quarter.
We are here to support you and child. Let us know how we can partner with you!
