At Metz, we SHOW RESPECT, we ARE DETERMINED, we SEEK EXCELLENCE, and we SHOW WHAT WE KNOW!
The mission of Grace E. Metz Middle School is to empower life-long learners by inspiring students to grow in confidence, self-awareness, and to become contributing members of our community.
Dear Metz Parent(s)/Guardian(s):
As we settle into the school year, I want to emphasize the importance of punctuality to school and to classes. Tardy sweeps will continue, and students who are not in class when the bell rings between each class change will be required to stay after school. Arriving on time is an expectation, and it sets the tone for a productive day of learning.
I’m excited to announce that our fundraiser is in full swing! All profits will go towards the Student Activities Fund, helping us purchase new classroom supplies, support extracurricular activities and events, and acquire school equipment to enhance our students’ experiences. A huge thank you to our amazing PTA and all the parents who have generously volunteered their time and input. Your support is invaluable and greatly appreciated.
Mark your calendars—Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) are scheduled for September 17th (Reading) and 18th (Math). Please ensure your child is at school on time, as assessments will begin promptly in the morning.
I also want to remind you that after-school clubs will begin in the second week of September. Encourage your child to join a club or find a sponsor if they’re interested in starting a new one. It’s a fantastic way for them to explore their interests and build connections.
Fall sports are already underway, and we invite you to come out and support our student-athletes. Let’s bring the energy and cheer on our Metz teams as they compete! We remain committed to maintaining a positive and respectful environment. Any student who violates the Student Code of Conduct will be removed from school grounds immediately and will not have access to other sports games this year. We take pride in our school community, and it’s essential that everyone feels safe and supported.
Thank you for your continued support of Metz Middle School. Your feedback and input are always welcomed. Reach me at jfinnegan@mcpsva.org or 571-377-6808.

As required by Virginia Code § 22.1-279.3 and the Manassas City Public Schools “Code of Behavior,” each parent of a student enrolled in a public school has a duty to assist the school in enforcing compulsory school attendance, and if necessary, to meet with the principal or his/her designee to ensure the student’s compliance with the compulsory school attendance law and to discuss improvement of the student’s school attendance.
It is the responsibility of the student to obtain and complete all assignments missed during the period of suspension. These assignments must be completed within a time frame established by the school.
A student is chronically absent when their total number of excused and unexcused absences is ten percent (10%) or more of the school year. Students should not miss school more than four (4) days per quarter.
We are here to support you and child. Let us know how we can partner with you!
