At Metz, we SHOW RESPECT, we ARE DETERMINED, we SEEK EXCELLENCE, and we SHOW WHAT WE KNOW!
The mission of Grace E. Metz Middle School is to empower life-long learners by inspiring students to grow in confidence, self-awareness, and to become contributing members of our community.
Dear Metz Families,
As we dive into fall, here are some important updates to share:
Sports Behavior Expectations: We're excited about our upcoming games! Please remind your child that our school rules apply to all sports events. This means no cursing or foul language, and backpacks aren't allowed for safety reasons. Students violating these rules will be asked to leave immediately. We're counting on your support to make our games fun and safe for everyone.
Upcoming Events:
Football Game: This Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. Come out and cheer on our Metz Mustangs!
Back to School Night: Thursday, September 26th, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. This is your chance to meet teachers, learn about the curriculum, and get involved. We hope to see you there.
Attendance Matters: Being in class and on time every day is crucial for your child's success. We know mornings can be hectic, but regular attendance makes a huge difference. Please reach out if you face any challenges getting your child to school. We're here to help find solutions.
Going Gold: We're wearing gold this Friday to support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. It's a simple way to show we care and teach our kids about supporting important causes.
We're committed to your child's success and can't do it alone. Your involvement makes a difference. Whether it's helping with homework, attending school events, or just talking to your kids about their day, your support is invaluable.
Thank you for your continued support in making Metz a positive and inclusive place for your child’s learning! Your feedback and input are always welcome. Reach me at jfinnegan@mcpsva.org or 571-377-6808.
"Every student, Every day, Whatever it takes!"

Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) is pleased to be among 42 organizations awarded a grant by UVA Health. Nearly $265,000 was allocated to local non-profits working to address critical community health needs. Of the recipients, 24 are in the Prince William Health District and 18 in the Rappahannock-Rapidan Health District.
The recipients were selected for their dedication to addressing the priorities identified in UVA Health's 2022-2024 Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), which focuses on mental health, behavioral health, substance use, and chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.
MCPS was awarded a grant to provide fitness-style watches for Mrs. Brown's Lifestyle Fitness Design class at Metz Middle School. These watches will help students track their heart rates and monitor time spent in the healthy heart rate zone, supporting the division’s commitment to student wellness.

As required by Virginia Code § 22.1-279.3 and the Manassas City Public Schools “Code of Behavior,” each parent of a student enrolled in a public school has a duty to assist the school in enforcing compulsory school attendance, and if necessary, to meet with the principal or his/her designee to ensure the student’s compliance with the compulsory school attendance law and to discuss improvement of the student’s school attendance.
It is the responsibility of the student to obtain and complete all assignments missed during the period of suspension. These assignments must be completed within a time frame established by the school.
A student is chronically absent when their total number of excused and unexcused absences is ten percent (10%) or more of the school year. Students should not miss school more than four (4) days per quarter.
We are here to support you and child. Let us know how we can partner with you!
Dear Metz Parents and Guardians,
We are delighted to extend a warm invitation to our upcoming Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 26, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. This year, we have planned an engaging and informative format, designed to give you a personalized opportunity to connect with your child’s teachers and gain valuable insights into our school community.
Here's what you can look forward to:
Key Administrative Presentations: Our school's administration will be delivering important information in the auditorium at 5:50 PM and again at 6:20 PM. You are welcome to stop by the auditorium and attend the session that best suits your schedule during Back-to-School Night.
Insightful Teacher Discussions: Our teachers will be grouped by subject area to provide key insights into crucial topics such as:
Understanding Your Child's Gradebook: Learn how to effectively track your child's progress and grades.
Thrillshare/Communication: Stay informed about school communications and announcements.
What Your Child Has Learned So Far and What's Coming: Gain an overview of curriculum highlights and upcoming topics.
Resources to Support Your Child: Discover tools and tips to help your child succeed in each subject.
Visit the various tables to help you with Parent Portal, Schoology Access, and you'll also have the opportunity to learn about joining school clubs and becoming a valued member of our PTA.
We encourage you to prepare by familiarizing yourself with your child’s schedule before the event. This will help you easily locate their teachers and classrooms throughout the evening, allowing you to move between different subjects and activities at your own pace.
We are excited to have you join us for this enriching evening! Whether you're eager to meet with teachers, gain deeper insights into our curriculum, or explore the diverse extracurricular opportunities, Back to School Night promises to be an invaluable chance to actively engage in your child’s education.
Please ensure you review your child's schedule to be familiar with their teachers. We eagerly anticipate your presence at this special event! See you there!
