A Message from your School Administrators

Good Evening!

As we move further into the school year, I want to thank our students, staff, and families for helping make Mayfield such a positive and successful learning community. It has been wonderful to see our Bobcats demonstrating leadership, responsibility, and kindness each day.

Earlier today, we celebrated 68 students during our Student of the Month recognition ceremony. Homeroom teachers selected these students as the August and September Students of the Month, recognizing them for consistently leading by example during the first part of the school year. Their positive attitudes, strong work habits, and commitment to doing their best have helped set the tone for a successful year at Mayfield and truly represent what it means to show their Bobcat Best.

We were also thrilled by the tremendous family support shown during the celebration. It was wonderful to see so many families join us to recognize their child’s achievement and then stay afterward to enjoy donuts together. These moments remind us of the strong partnership between home and school and the important role families play in student success.

Congratulations again to all of our Student of the Month recipients! Our next Student of the Month celebration will take place in December, and we are excited to see the next group of students who rise to the challenge and continue showing their Bobcat Best.

Thank you for your continued support of Mayfield Intermediate School, and we look forward to celebrating many more successes throughout the year!

Dr. Donnie Frischkorn
Principal

End of the First Quarter is Friday, October 16

The first quarter is ending soon, and we want to ensure families are aware of the newly adopted Grading Scales and Practices Policy, which the school board recently updated and approved. You can find the link to the policy below.

Manassas City Public Schools Grading Policy and Regulation-IGR-R-1

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to establish a fair, consistent, and transparent system of assessment and grading across Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) that supports high academic standards, encourages student growth, and provides students and parents with timely and accurate information about their progress toward meeting content standards.

Philosophy

MCPS believes that grading should serve as a meaningful reflection of student learning and mastery of Virginia Standards of Learning and division curriculum objectives. MCPS is committed to grading practices that promote continuous student engagement, reflection, and ownership of learning while providing students with multiple opportunities and varied ways to demonstrate their understanding and mastery. Grading should support student growth through timely, actionable feedback and appropriate reassessment opportunities. MCPS is dedicated to maintaining fair, equitable, and consistent grading practices across all grade levels and schools, ensuring that grades are a reliable measure of student learning and progress.
Guiding Principles

1. Grades shall be a valid measurement of student knowledge and skill.
2. Teachers shall use both formative and summative assessments to evaluate progress.
3. Feedback shall be timely and informative to support continued learning.
4. Reassessment opportunities shall be provided in accordance with the regulation.
5. Grades shall not be used as punishment nor reflect classroom behavior.
6. Students are expected to make reasonable efforts on all assignments and assessments.
7. Teachers shall maintain sufficient evidence of student learning when determining grades.
8. Consistency among schools will be attained through district-wide expectations and administrative supervision.
9. Grades and assessments are used to communicate academic progress to parents and guardians.

Parent Teacher Conferences are November 2nd

We are excited to partner with our families during our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conference Day on Monday, November 2, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Parents are encouraged to reach out to their child's teachers to schedule a conference time. Many teachers will also be extending invitations for both parents and students to attend together. To support meaningful communication with all families, several translators will be available throughout the day to assist during conferences.

Parent-teacher conferences provide an excellent opportunity to strengthen the home-school partnership, reflect on your child's progress during the first quarter, celebrate successes, discuss areas for growth, and collaboratively set goals for the remainder of the school year.

We strongly encourage all families to make every effort to meet with their child's teachers. By working together, we can ensure every student has the support they need to succeed.

We look forward to seeing you on November 2!
